De Freij suggests adopting 1960 law, with adding 6 parliamentary seats

Member of the Future bloc MP Nabil De Freij called on Friday on Speaker Nabih Berri and the members of the parliamentary communications committee to hold the elections according the 1960 electoral law in case the parties fail to reach agreement over a new electoral law.

During a press conference, De Freij suggested, in case the 60 electoral law were to be adopted, adding 6 parliamentary seats and distributing them among the electoral districts with a Christian majority, noting that “this way the Parliament’s mandate will not be extended and the rights of the Christians will be preserved.”

“Why are you discussing electoral draft laws based on 128 MPs, while you agreed on increasing the number of seats to 134 during the joint committees in order to ensure the rights of the minorities?” De Freij asked, addressing Berri and the parliamentary communications committee’s members.
