Mikati and Walles discuss regional developments
PM Najib Mikati left Beirut Tuesday morning heading to Riyadh accompanied by an official delegation that will take part in the funeral services of Saudi Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud.

Before leaving Lebanese soil, Mikati met with Deputy Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Jack Walles and U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly in the Grand Serail to discuss developments in Lebanon and in the region as well as bilateral relations.

During a lunch banquet held in honor of the participants in the seventh scientific conference for the Union of the Arab Constitutional Council and Courts, Mikati stressed the importance of activating the role of the constitutional council in Lebanon.

“If strengthened, the constitutional council can promote the independency of the judicial system since it is one of the state’s fundamental pillars”, Mikati said.
