MP Aoun: Covering those escalating security breaches is unacceptable

Change and Reform Bloc Leader MP Michel Aoun said that urgent draft laws were ignored by deputies and were not scheduled on the agenda of the parliament, adding that deputies represent the entire nation and have the right to raise their proposals at parliament.

Speaking on Friday after an exceptional meeting for the Bloc, MP Aoun said “the 'other party' disregarded the Orthodox Gathering electoral draft since they do not want to grant citizens their rights,” he said in reference to the March 14 bloc.

“The Orthodox proposal was not scheduled for the Parliament’s agenda although it was an urgent draft law,” MP Aoun said.

As for the issue of appointing a new Army Commander, MP Aoun said that non-Christian officials are trying to hijack the decisions of the Christian leaders without prior consent or consultation.

“Why should the parliament assume the power of the cabinet in appointing the army commander?” MP Aoun asked.

As for the security situation, MP Aoun said it was not acceptable that Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel be labeled a scapegoat nor was it acceptable that he cover over those who are escalating the situation in various Lebanese regions.
