Wildfire erupts in Akkar, families urge LAF to provide assistance

A wildfire erupted on Thursday overnight in the Ayat town in Lebanon's northeastern town of Akkar, scorching through forests and threatening numerous houses located in the area of Harat Bakish- al-Chafaka.

In this regard, the mayor of Ayat, Khaled al-Ahmad said the families were forced to evacuate their villages as the fire neared their homes, noting that the blaze caused damages to dunums of orchards and forests sites.

In turn, the mayor of al-Doura town, Khaled al-Sahmarani said the flames raged through the forest of al-Doura in the valley of al-Kattab on the border with the town of Ayat, calling on the Lebanese Armed Forces and the concerned authorities to send a helicopter the soonest possible.

Meanwhile, families along with Civil Defense members are exerting tireless efforts in order to contain the blaze.

Wildfires are common in the Lebanese territories during the dry summer season, scorching through forest sites and causing severe damages to dunums of orchards and farmlands.
