Ali: STL purely a “Lebanese” matter, Syria has a strong immune system

Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali said that the issue of funding the STL is purely a “Lebanese” matter, adding that Syria pays tribute to any effort that strengthens and stabilizes Lebanon.

Following his meeting with former PM Omar Karami in his office in Al Ramleh Al Bayda, Ali pointed to the cooperation between Syria and the Lebanese cabinet, hoping attempts to smuggle weapons across the borders would be foiled.

“We need further efficiency regarding border control to prevent gunmen from crossing the borders and weapons from being smuggled which both harm Syria’s stability”, Ali said. Ali stressed that Syria has a strong immune system that allows it to settle all issues, adding that the Syrians are self-sufficient.

“The sanctions against Syria are backfiring on those who imposed it in the first place”, Ali said, stressing that some neighboring countries, such as Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan understand the situation and are acting according to their interests.
