LF leader Geagea says Hezbollah resolute on controlling national decisions

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea slammed Hezbollah on Thursday for refusing to hold a serious dialogue on the issue of its arms possession, adding that it is too early to tackle his possible candidacy for the presidential elections to be held next year.

In an interview with Rose El Youssef Egyptian magazine, LF leader Geagea accused Hezbollah of planning to control the state's strategic decisions as well as the Lebanese Armed Forces.

His comments came in response to a question on Speaker Nabih Berri's initiative to hold a meeting at the Baabda Palace in order to tackle several controversial issues, including the national defense strategy and Hezbollah's arsenal.

In a question directed at Geagea about the presidential elections, he said that President Michel Sleiman “totally and clearly” opposes any extension to his term, which ends in May 2014.

Geagea also said that "the caretaker government had failed as an executive authority," adding that "catastrophic failures” should be settled through the formation of a new cabinet that holds on to the decision-making process rather than allowing Hezbollah to obstruct its mission.
