EDL contract workers stage sit-in outside Zouk, Jiyeh power plants

Contract workers at Electricite Du Liban (EDL) staged a sit-in on Tuesday morning outside the Zouk power plant and blocked its main gate for not receiving their salaries.

They also held another sit-in at the entrance of the Jiyeh power station after security forces prevented them from demonstrating inside the building.

This as, a number of protesters vowed to continue their open-ended strike until their demands are met, stressing that they will hold peaceful movements.

EDL contract workers have been protesting for months calling on the government to employ them as full-time staff and to pay their salaries.

Their protests have included shutting the gates of EDL headquarters in Beirut and disrupting normal work at the state-run company.
