Najjar says indictment published by STL not surprising

Former Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar said on Friday that the indictment published yesterday by the Special Tribunal For Lebanon (STL) "was not surprising," noting that it will be followed by a series of accusations.

In an interview with LBCI's Nharkom Said TV Show, Najjar said that "the process of issuing indictments by the STL is below satisfactory," adding that he "expected more than that".

Former Minister Najjar also called on the Lebanese government to fulfill all its due obligations in this regard.

On Thursday, the court hearing cases against the suspects in the 2005 bombing that killed former Lebanese prime minister Rafik al-Hariri published an arrest warrant for a new suspect in the case.

The Special Tribunal For Lebanon, based in The Hague, said the indictment for Hassan Habib Merhi had been secretly issued to the Lebanese government in August but was now being made public.
