Syrian President Bashar Assad’s interview on ABC News America raised many questions. “The Army and the Security Forces follow directives from the government and not from me directly, all brutal actions and misconduct were based on personal decisions and not from any institution”, Assad told ABC reporter Barbara Walters.

The White House commented on Assad’s interview denying giving orders to kill protestors describing his words as being “incredible”.

Syria tried to clarify its stances, especially in regard to who is held responsible for the killings. The foreign ministry spokesperson said that Assad is not trying to deny responsibility and considers that the White House is putting words in Assad’s mouth.

On the other hand, Turkey announced a fresh round of economic sanctions against Syria, imposing a 30% tax on all products imported from Syria.

On the local scene, former U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Jeffrey Feltman, held a press conference at the Grand Serail after a series of meetings with Lebanese officials. Feltman said that we must focus international pressure on Assad and not on the Syrian people.

In Beirut, the Change and Reform bloc decided to participate in today’s cabinet session as Labor Minister Charbel Nahhas was set to present the wage adjustment proposal to be voted on during the session.

Aoun commented on the participation of FPM ministers by saying. “we will keep all option open within a given timeframe until we decide whether or not we want to continue with this government.”
