President Sleiman: There will be no return to violence in Tripoli

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman expressed Wednesday his relief regarding the stabilization of the security situation in the northern city of Tripoli, stressing that there was no turning back to civil unrest.

Sleiman called on all factions to prevent their political differences from hindering civil peace in order to restore tranquility and stability in the city.

Separately, the president met with a delegation from the LAF's command and received an invitation to head over the seventieth anniversary of Lebanon's Independence Day ceremony and military parade, which will take place on the 22nd of November.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon who support the revolt against Syrian president Bachar Assad while the area's Alawite community favors the said rule.

The city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to ongoing civil war in neighboring Syria, and the conflicted stances between the city's locals.
