Patriarch Rai calls on Christians to play core role in solving Lebanon's issues

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai slammed on Tuesday Lebanese leaders for paralyzing state institutions, reiterating his call on Christians to play a core role in solving the country's pending issues.

Patriarch Rai made his comments at Beirut International Airport before heading for Rome.

He also called on Christians to distance themselves and play a conciliatory role to spare Lebanon further crises.

He also hailed president Michel Sleiman's role on different issues facing the country.

Lebanese leaders are sharply divided over various internal issues, such as the formation of a new government, the new electoral law and the next year's presidential elections.
