Former Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) Major General Ashraf Rifi said in a statement on Tuesday that the call to stage peaceful demonstrations in Tripoli under the slogan of restoring calm and security in the city is directed at all its residents, be they Muslim or Christian.

He also praised all forms peaceful protests that aim to unite the city's residents with the participation of civil society activists, families and spiritual leaders.

Rifi stressed the need to hold accountable all those involved in Tripoli's twin blasts and to bring them to justice, lashing out at calls for protests issued by wanted persons suspected for involvement in the August bombings, he said in reference to Arab Democratic Party.

"It is well-known that the perpetrators were and are still being used by the Syrian regime and its Lebanese allies to target Tripoli which has witnessed several rounds of violence, causing humanitarian and material damages, " Rifi said.

In August, two explosions rocked the city of Tripoli near the al-Taqwa and al-Salam mosques, leaving 45 killed and almost 500 others injured.

In the details, one blast occurred outside the al-Taqwa mosque as Friday prayers ended, while the other the other hit central Tripoli near the al-Salam mosque facing the residence of ISF Major General Ashraf Rifi.
