MP Jumblatt: Lebanese judicial system must address Tripoli’s security situation

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt stressed on Monday the need for the Lebanese judicial system to address the security situation in the northern city of Tripoli in order to avert “strife.”

MP Jumblatt’s comments came in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website, in which he noted that all criminals must not be defended.

He made his statements in reference to Arab Democratic Party leader former MP Ali Eid who was charged by the State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr on Tuesday [05-11] with his driver Ahmed Mohammed Ali with smuggling suspect Ahmad Merhi suspected for involvement in the case of Tripoli's twin blasts.

A search and investigation warrant was issued against former MP Eid on Monday.

Judge Saqr also charged Syrian national Sukeina Ismail with plotting to transfer the two car bombs from Syria into Lebanon.

Last week, the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau summoned Eid for interrogations over his alleged involvement in the August twin bombings that targeted Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli.

On another note, MP Jumblatt called on all Lebanese leaders to ease down their rhetoric and abide by the self-disassociation policy pertaining to the Syrian crisis.
