Syndicate of customs agents stages sit-in

The syndicate of customs agents staged Wednesday a sit-in at the ports of Beirut and Tripoli, Beirut Airport and the al-Masnaa office, declaring a one-day strike to denounce the attack against the customs directorate.

This as oil companies failed to deliver gasoline and fuel oil to the gas stations, since the customs employees abstained from opening their offices.

On Tuesday, Al-Jadeed television’s “Tahet Taelat al-Masouliya” crew was beaten outside the Customs headquarters in Downtown Beirut, over an episode on the “corruption at the Lebanese Customs.”

Consequently, crew members Riyad Qobeissi, Adeeb Farhat, Ali Shreim and Ali Khalifeh were arrested by Customs members and referred to the public prosecution then were released around 9 pm.

Meanwhile, a number of journalists gathered near the Customs headquarters calling for the swift release of the four men while acting General Prosecutor Judge Hammoud said that the detainees will be freed as soon as the coroner issues a report.
