UN chief condemns Bir Hassan twin blasts
The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon condemned Thursday the twin blasts that targeted the Iranian Culture Center in South Beirut’s Bir Hassan region on Wednesday, calling on all the Lebanese people to support the new government.

The UN chief issued a statement whereby he called on all the Lebanese parties to work in order to maintain national unity, which is the sole guarantee to Lebanon’s security and stability.

On Wednesday morning, two explosions rocked South Beirut's Bir Hassan region near the Iranian Cultural Center, across the Kuwaiti Embassy roundabout, killing six and wounding 129 others. The explosions were caused by suicide bombers and explosive-laden vehicles.

The Abdullah Azzam Brigades claimed responsibility for the twin attack via their twitter account, a group affiliated with al-Qaeda and one that had previously attacked the area citing Hezbollah's interference in the Syrian crisis as the main reason, demanding the release of Muslim inmates from Lebanese prisons.
