Sleiman says Syrian shelling attempt to drag Lebanon into war

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman denounced on Saturday the Syrian shelling which is targeting various Lebanese bordering towns, pointing out that these attacks are an attempt to drag Lebanon into the Syrian crisis.

"It is unacceptable that innocent Lebanese people pay the price for these attempts,” Sleiman said.

In this regard, President Sleiman called on all Syrian sides to refrain from targeting Lebanese territories “under any excuse."

Sleiman expressed his hope that ministers agree on a governmental statement at the soonest time possible so the cabinet may provide assistance to the military institution.

Separately, Sleiman held talks with the Secretary General of the Higher Lebanese-Syrian Council Nasri Khoury and discussed with him the situation in Syria.
