LF MP Zahra to LBCI: LF party will congratulate and support any elected president

Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said on Tuesday that LF leader Samir Geagea's candidacy for the presidential elections "is not an attempt to block the way of anyone aiming for the presidency, including MP Michel Aoun."

Zahra's comments were made during an interview with Nharkom Said TV show in which he stressed that the elections must remain an "exclusive Lebanese affair".

Zahra noted that the political program of Geagea will be declared prior to the electoral session, adding the Lebanese Forces party will congratulate and support whomever is elected as head of the Lebanese state.

On Friday, the Lebanese Forces executive committee meeting declared the candidacy of LF leader Samir Geagea for the presidency.

MP Georges Adwan read a statement on behalf of the committee in which he noted that there was an agreement to back Geagea in his bid to become president “out of the patriotic and political principles of the LF and the March 14 camp.”

President Michel Sleiman's tenure ends in May, but the constitutional period to elect a new head of state began on March 25.
