Bekaa farmers call on authorities to help them deal with agricultural crises

The farmers of the Bekaa condemned on Sunday the cabinet’s refusal to grant them compensations for the losses they sustained in terms of crops due to the weather.

Following a meeting held by the farmers’ committee in the presence of the region’s deputy, the farmers demanded that a meeting will be set with Agriculture Minister Akram Chouhayeb in order to explain their crisis.

In this regard, Baalbek and Hermel bloc deputies called for establishing a fund for the farmers in order for them to be able to cope with agricultural crises, urging President Michel Sleiman, Prime Minister Tammam Salam and the minister of agriculture to raise this issue during the upcoming cabinet session.
