Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi stressed Friday that Lebanon is committed to cooperating with the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, stressing that the Lebanese state and its institutions have to respect the international resolutions and agreements reached between the Lebanese government and the United Nations, mainly ones related to the STL.
“Article 15 of the said resolution stipulates the need to cooperate with the tribunal and to abide by the decisions and warrants it issues,” Rifi said, noting that this cooperation is ongoing in accordance with the protocol.
In this regard, Rifi said in a statement that freedom of expression is protected by the Lebanese Constitution and laws adopted by the state, that guarantee every journalist's right to perform his duties under the law.
“Therefore, a journalist does not have the right to violate the confidentiality of an investigation, and leak the names of witnesses,” he continued.
