Future bloc: Any amendment to national pacts requires national debate
The Future bloc stressed on Tuesday that the election of a new president is a top priority, noting that any effort or suggestion to amend national pacts requires an all-inclusive debate under favorable conditions.

“The country needs a new head of state amid the dangerous developments in the region,” the bloc said following its weekly meeting.

“Constitutional amendments require a calm atmosphere,” the bloc added, highlighting the need to abide by the notions of coexistence, democracy and a peaceful transfer of power.

The Future bloc also urged the March 8 forces to refrain from disrupting presidential election sessions and to announce their own presidential candidate or agree on a candidate capable of unifying the country and defending Lebanon’s independence.

“The Lebanese people should exert joint efforts to address terrorism,” the bloc said, calling on Hezbollah to “immediately” withdraw its fighters from Syria.
