MP Qobeissy condemns Israeli aggression on Gaza, Lebanon rocket attacks

"Launching rockets from Lebanon [towards the occupied Palestinian territories] endangers the country's security," Development and Liberation bloc MP Hani Qobeissy said on Tuesday.

"He who stands behind this act aims to drag Lebanon into sedition and to sow the seeds of discord," he said.

In this regard, MP Qobeissy condemned the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the inaction of the global community with regards to "daily massacres committed by Israel against the Palestinian people".

"Arabs have abandoned the most fundamental causes, namely that of Palestine, and headed instead to the so-called Arab spring, a spring stained with blood and murder," he added.

Israel shelled a rocket launch site in southern Lebanon on Monday (July 14) causing residents to flee the area, in retaliation to at least one rocket fired from the site hitting northern Israel.

The rocket was fired from the area around the southern city of Tyre, Lebanese security sources said. An Israeli military spokesman said their army responded with a salvo of shells and flares towards the launch site.

Some residents of the area around Tyre were seen leaving their homes.

There were no immediate reports of casualties from the rocket attack. It was at least the fourth time rockets have been fired from Lebanon since the start of a week-old Israeli offensive against Palestinian militants firing rockets at Israel from the Gaza Strip.
