PSP official to LBCI: Pay scale discussions are continuous

Progressive Socialist Party official Zafer Naser stated that talks held on Thursday between Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil and Future Movement adviser Nader Hariri in the presence of Health Minister Wael Abou Faour on the issue of the series of ranks and salaries were not negative, stressing that negotiations will continue in a bid to find a solution for the pay scale dossier.

Naser told LBCI’s Nharkom Said that House Speaker Nabih Berri expressed his discontent following the latest statement issued by the Future movement, pointing out that a meeting wouldn’t have been held between the aforementioned officials if the dossier of the pay scale had not reached a deadlock.

Former PM Mikati's cabinet endorsed the new salary scale for public employees in 2012, ending a long dispute that had triggered several sit-ins and strikes held by the UCC.

Former President Michel Sleiman signed the decree mid-June 2013 and it was referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committees for further examination, however the law was never passed.
