EDL contract workers: We are not murderers

Electricite Du Liban (EDL) contract workers said those who violate the law, and keep recruiting new contract workers must be referred to the public prosecution, to be held accountable.

In a press conference held on Friday, the contract workers said that they are neither murderers nor outlaws, stressing that they are calling on the authorities to commit to the law.

EDL contract workers have been protesting for months calling on the government to employ them as full-time staff and to pay their salaries.

Their protests have included shutting the gates of EDL headquarters in Beirut and disrupting normal work at the state-run company.
