Sources to LBCI: Summonses in case of burning IS flag suspended until next week
Sources reported to LBCI on Thursday that Change and Reform Bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan discussed with Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi and State Prosecutor Samir Hammoud the issue of individuals who burned the Islamic State’s flag in Ashrafieh’s Sassine Square.

The sources added that the three officials agreed to suspend the summonses until next week.

On Saturday (August 30), the media bureau of Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi said in a statement that “a number of unknown individuals burned an Islamic State flag in Ashrafieh’s Sassine Square.”

The statement added that “the flag has the slogan of Islam written on it (There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah), stressing that this slogan has nothing to do with the terrorist practices of the Islamic State.

Accordingly, Rifi called on Acting State Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud to take measures in order to pursue, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators, stressing that such acts are considered as contempt to religious rites and may incite strife.
