Introduction to the evening news 23-01-2012

Will post-January 22nd Syria be different from pre-January 22nd January?

Yesterday, all the cards were laid down on the table with an Arab League that seems to be leaning towards seeking a “Yemeni solution” to the Syrian crisis. However, Damascus vehemently rejected the Arab initiative, considering it blatant interference in Syrian affairs.

The Syrian rejection is one thing and the path of the Arab initiative is quite another; In fact, less than 24 hours after the birth of the new Arab initiative, the German ambassador to the UN announced that the Europeans will seek UN Security Council endorsement of the Arab League plan.

In Lebanon, the domestic scene is drowning in social issues starting with the continued electricity blackouts for which politicians are tossing responsibility like a hot potato, and the wage adjustment issue that has passed the first big obstacle but has yet to overcome the thorny transportation allowance clause.
