Member of Change and Reform bloc MP Hekmat Dib condemned the incident that took place at the Justice Palace between employee Manale Daou and MP Nicolas Fattoush, stressing that the Lebanese deputies have garnered enough of a bad reputation as it is.
In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, MP Dib said that accusing all the deputies of being “thieves” is regrettable, noting that not everyone deserves such a description.
In this regard, Dib said that civil society activists must use a language worthy of their causes, instead of resorting to street language.
On another note, the deputy reiterated his objection to the extension of the parliament's mandate.
On Monday, sources from the Justice Palace in Baabda reported that MP Nicolas Fattouch punched Manale Daou, who is responsible for filing complaints, after she asked him to wait in line, since she had other complaints previously presented by other lawyers.
The incident drew sharp criticism seemingly since the matter was "solved internally" without Daou resorting to the law.
It is worth noting that MP Fattouch was not practicing his duties as an MP whilst filing a complaint at the Justice Palace, but was instead practicing his civilian rights, which would have left him prone to the rule of law devoid of political immunity had Daou pressed charges.
