Sheikh Bilal Deqmaq briefly arrested in Turkey's Ankara

Wanted Lebanese sheikh Bilal Deqmaq was briefly arrested by Turkish authorities on Saturday on charges of transporting weapons, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The agency added that Sheikh Deqmaq was reportedly detained at a Turkey’s airport and interrogated on claims he had smuggled arms into Ankara, before the Turkish authorities released him.

Deqmaq told LBCI that he was not officially arrested in Turkey, adding that such news aim at "causing tensions."

Last week, the military prosecutor issued an arrest warrant against Deqmaq after the Lebanese Armed Forces raided weapons cache at his residence in the northern city of Tripoli.

Deqmaq, who was in Turkey when the warrant was issued, denied that the weapons belonged to him, saying he had kept the weapons for Sheikh Dai al-Islam Shahal.
