A number of high school students staged a demonstration on Thursday in the Abi Samra region of the northern city of Tripoli, to express rejection and to condemn the “offensive cartoons of Prophet Mohammad published by the French weekly Charlie Hebdo.”
The students called on all those who share their opinion to stage protests and express their position in this regard.
Charlie Hebdo published on Wednesday a new issue with a Prophet Mohammad cartoon on the front page. The paper was sold out across Paris before dawn.
The core of the newspaper's staff perished a week ago when Islamist extremists stormed its offices, killing 12. Those who survived put out the issue that appeared on newsstands Wednesday, working out of borrowed offices, with a print run of 3 million, more than 50 times the usual circulation.
