LAF unit arrests several terror suspects across Lebanon

The Lebanese Armed Forces said on Friday that a suspect was wounded in a clash after attacking an army patrol in the northern city of Tripoli on Thursday.

In a communiqué, the army said that the patrol came under fire by Khaled Zakaria al-Khaled when it interfered to disperse armed men involved in a family dispute in the region of al-Beddawi.

The soldiers fired back, wounding al-Khaled.

The patrol seized his weapon and ammunition and apprehended Khaled Akram al-Hajj Deeb who was involved in the fighting, the communiqué added.

Also, an army patrol raided the home of Othman Mohammed al-Abdullah, a wanted terror suspect, in the region of Bab al-Tabbaneh, but did not find him.

It noted that it seized from his residence grenades, weapons, ammunition, an explosives belt, detonators, military gear and the flags of a terrorist organization.

Another suspect was arrested in the border town of Arsal on Thursday. According to the communiqué, Omar Ali al-Hujairi was arrested for smuggling food and military gear to the outskirts of Arsal where Islamic State group and the al-Nusra Front armed men are hiding.

A man involved in an attack on the army in the summer was among the arrestees on Thursday, said the military institution.

Mohammed Ali Allaw, who was also arrested at dawn Friday in the Haret Hreik neighborhood of Beirut's southern suburbs, had opened fire on LAF soldiers in al-Marj in Hermel last June, it added.
