MP Jumblatt calls for building new prisons

Head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt said that “while waiting for a miracle resulting in the election of a new president, and while waiting for a solution for the chronic issue of electricity and administrative reform, it has become mandatory to proceed with the establishment of new prisons, where the minimum standards of human rights will be taken into account.”

“Any detainee or prisoner is a human being who has the right to spend his sentence in a place where the required humanitarian conditions are guaranteed,” he said.

In his weekly statement to al-Anbaa website, Jumblatt called on the government to take the initiative seriously, pointing out that projects pertaining to new prisons have been drawn and studied, but were put on hold due to lack of funding.
