Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said on Tuesday that the party has yet to take a decision regarding the initiative launched by the Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun. Zahra’s comments were made during a phone call with LBCI's Nharkom Said TV show whereby he said that the LF party is “open” to any suggestion that serves the interests of the country. He also noted that dialogue is ongoing with the FPM, adding that the “Declaration of Intent” is complete, and that both parties are waiting for the appropriate time to declare it. As for the security appointments, Zahra stressed that the LF does not interfere in such matters, reiterating the party's rejection to power vacuum in crucial posts. On Friday, head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun declared that the solution to the current constitutional crises lies within three options: the election of a president directly by the people, holding a popular referendum based on which the parliament will choose a new head of state or electing a new president from among the Christian leadership with the highest representation. He added that parliamentary elections based on a new and balanced electoral law must be held before the election of a president, stressing that he will not accept a repeat of the Doha agreement. In a press conference held in Rabieh, he said that Christians in Lebanon are paying the price of all problems facing the nation, although they [the Christian community] represent stability and moderation, pointing out that their proper representation was reduced due to electoral laws that are inconsistent with the constitution and the national pact. On Monday a delegation of the Change and Reform bloc, chaired by MP Ibrahim Kanaan, held talks with key figures to propose the initiative suggested by bloc leader MP Michel Aoun over the long-delayed presidential election. The delegation’s tour kicked off at Bkerke where Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rai received the bloc officials. The delegation also held talks with Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea in Mehrab and Kataeb party leader Amine Gemayel in Saifi. Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of president Michel Sleiman ended last May without the election of a successor.
