Kataeb chief Amin Gemayel stressed Thursday that “the presidential elections have become a strategic and national responsibility to preserve Lebanon’s future.”
“Although the Lebanese political crisis is related to the regional situation, our main duty as Lebanese people is to rescue our institutions from the current impasse by heading to the parliament and electing a new president,” he added.
In this context, Gemayel expressed concern over the possibility of heading towards the formation of a constituent assembly, should the presidential vacuum persists.
Following his meeting with Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai in Bkerke, Gemayel said that he informed Rai of the latest developments within the Kataeb party, including his decision not to run for the party’s presidency for a new term.
“Renewal of leadership is important as we must give the Lebanese politics a new push forward,” he said.
