Kataeb bloc MP Marouni says party internal elections ‘a unique experience’

Kataeb bloc MP Elie Marouni said his party's internal elections were “a unique experience at a time when the whole democratic system in Lebanon remains obstructed”.

“There were no interventions [in the elections] and the door was left open to any Kataeb member to submit his candidacy,” MP Marouni said in an interview with LBCI’s Nharkom Said TV Show on Monday.

“[Former Kataeb party head] Amin Gemayel is known to be wise and calm, but [the newly-elected chief] Sami Gemayel is more dynamic,” Marouni said, adding “the Lebanese people are in need of a dynamic leader”.

Turning to the case of Ella Tannous -a baby patient whose limbs had to be amputated- the deputy bemoaned “the absence of surveillance and accountability”, and regretted that “justice did not take its course” in this case.
