FPM chief Aoun holds Information Bureau accountable for Roumieh abuse
Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun called on Tuesday for a probe into the latest developments at Roumieh Prison, accusing the Internal Security Forces’ Information Bureau of shortcomings at the facility.

“The abuse at Roumieh jail was caused by individuals, not the ISF institution, and an investigation should be held without defamation,” Aoun said after his bloc’s weekly meeting.

“It’s not the first time that violations occur at the facility, but this time they were very clear,” he said in reference to the Information Bureau.

He also said that “riots and demonstrations flare up when the state does not take legal action against violators”.

On Sunday, videos depicting guards beating Roumieh prison inmates went viral on social media platforms, sparking outrage and nation-wide condemnation of the incident.

On Tuesday, State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr charged five guards with abusing the prisoners.
