FM Bassil: No resolution in cabinet without consensus
Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil lauded on Thursday remarks made by Prime Minister Tammam Salam on “turning the page” following the stormy cabinet session held on July 9.

He also stressed that no resolutions would be passed without consensus among all members of the cabinet.

Bassil’s comments were made during a press conference whereby he apologized "to all Lebanese over the government's performance,” echoing earlier remarks made by Salam.

The cabinet crisis grew earlier this month when a dispute erupted between Salam and Bassil over the cabinet's decision-making mechanism.

“If an agreement could not be forged on the appointment of a top security official, a minister should not commit legal violations by extending the mandate of the incumbent officials," Bassil noted in reference to Defense Minister Samir Moqbel.

Earlier on Thursday, the cabinet failed to reach common grounds over its work mechanism and the waste crisis but agreed to continue discussions during next week’s session.
