Clashes renewed on Tuesday between protesters and security forces at the Riyad al-Soleh square after some demonstrators tried to throw water bottles at the police. This as the security apparatuses brought in more reinforcements, while organizers of the protests tried to calm the situation.
In turn, the state-run National News Agency reported that "some protesters tried to throw water bottles at the security forces, but the organizers of the demonstrations expelled them because they did not abide by the instructions of the organizing committee to keep the protests peaceful." Earlier in the day, an extraordinary cabinet session convened at the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tammam Salam. Following the session, Information Minister Ramzi Jreij said that the ministers canceled the results of the waste management tenders and returned the file to the concerned ministerial committee, amid the withdrawal of Hezbollah, Change and Reform bloc and Tachnag ministers from the session. On another note, Jreij declared that 100 million dollars will be allocated to Akkar district to set up developmental projects.
