Politicians need to take technical measures to address financial issues -Patriarch Rai

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai said Sunday that Lebanon has been facing a financial instability due to the failure of the parliament to accomplish its duties, calling upon the political class to take the necessary technical procedures in a bid to address the growing financial issues.

During his Sunday sermon in Bkerke, Patriarch Rai considered the electoral law and the law of granting citizenship to the Lebanese expats as national demands, emphasizing that “a normal legislation cannot take place amid the presidential vacuum.”

Lebanese MPs have failed so far to elect a new president over lack of quorum, after the mandate of President Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014.

Vacuum striking the presidential post since May is having bad repercussions on the cabinet and the parliament as the Lebanese state is threatened with further crises over ongoing disputes between the rival parties.
