Introduction to the evening news 19-03-2012

The situation in Syria remains unchanged; military escalation continues while diplomatic efforts renew following the arrival of the international team. In Lebanon, the official scene is preoccupied by the visit of the U.S. Under-Secretary of State for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, David Cohen, who will arrive in Beirut tomorrow. Everyone is waiting to see what he has to offer, especially for the monetary authorities.          

Meanwhile, while the scandal of rotten foodstuffs, mainly meat and fish, is escalating, a dairy scandal emerged only to add to the crisis. It seems that the market is full of rotten dairy products, as approved by the minister of agriculture who abstained from revealing the names that are in his possession, awaiting the end of investigations. A positive development marked the day as the minister of economy announced that the market has started to clean itself.        

This cleaning process took place by throwing the rotten foodstuffs in waste dumps.           

But before going into details, we must shed light on a very significant legal step in Egypt. The Egyptian military court acquitted the brother of Ayman al-Zawahiri and Mohammed Islambouli, whose Islamist brother Khaled assassinated President Anwar Sadat. They were both sentenced to death on charges of terrorist acts.
