The Head of Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun voiced concern over the campaign targeting the electricity plan forwarded by his bloc.
“The campaign against the Change and Reform bloc’s electricity plan is launched as a cover up for funds that were stolen from the treasury”, Aoun said, adding that the finances of a number of prominent political figures who are making these accusations are suspicious.
“I want to be informed of the findings of the financial investigations into certain accounts”, Aoun told reporters following the weekly Change and Reform bloc meeting.
Aoun refused to comment on remarks made by PM Najib Mikati and State Minister Ahmad Karami upon a friend’s request.
Aoun said that the electricity plan is not his bloc’s only concern adding that no one should expect them to yield to anyone’s desires.
“In case all they care about is obstructing the cabinet’s work, let them bear the brunt of the blackouts”, Aoun said.
Aoun stressed “the path of [former PM Rafik and Saad Hariri] is continuing”.
Aoun said that the electricity is not the only sector affected by reforms since they also include the health and tax sectors.
“The government should look into ways to gather funds without increasing taxes on the citizens”, Aoun added.
Aoun described one of the MPs remarks targeting the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) of unacceptable; accusing him of going overboard. He urged the concerned authorities to take the necessary legal procedures since they threaten the LAF’s unity.
