Book prices weigh heavily on parents
Students carry their heavy backpacks while parents have to carry the heavy burden of high book prices. September is a month dreaded by Lebanese parents who have to pay countless school fees. Retailers can see up to 25% profits on school book sales in light of the heavy competition; while prices of imported books hit an all-time high in 2011.
While savings up to 50% can be made by buying second-hand textbooks, many schools now require students to use only the latest edition of textbooks that are often printed annually with only minor changes to the text itself.
