Introduction to the evening news 11-05-2012

A new fire, more lives lost, more pollution and an old-new reminder of the lack of sufficient public safety procedures.         

The tragedy of the “Carpet Byblos” factory in Safra is a familiar scene that recurs each time in a different factory and a different region: an electrical short circuit led to a fire that ravaged the 5 story complex and only died down after having destroyed the factory completely. We will shortly be with our field reporter who will brief us on the situation nearly 11 hours after the fire’s eruption. We will also host H.E. the Minister of Industry here in the studio to shed the light on this issue.                                                    

An old issue returned to the forefront as the U.S. warned of the diversion of pro-regime Syrian funds to Lebanese banks. This warning was particularly important due to its timing, amid escalating violence in Syria.         

Also on Syria, UN envoy Terje Roed-Larsen told LBCI from New York that no one must forget the UNSC resolution prohibiting the transfer of arms to Syria.
