Introduction to the evening news 17-05-2012

Developments today are like riddles that need cryptographers to be decoded:      

The first riddle was the statement made by a diplomatic source at the U.S. embassy in Beirut; the source denied any U.S. relation to the latest arrest campaign in Tripoli.      

This update denies all rumors saying that Shadi el-Mawlawi’s arrest took place upon the request of a western intelligence agency, i.e. the CIA.        

The second riddle is the timing in which Syria handed three persons involved in the abduction of the seven Estonians on March 23, 2011 to the Lebanese General Security Directorate. The timing is suspicious as this process took place one year and a month after the abduction.       

The third riddle is the situation in Tripoli that is still troubled despite all attempts to impose a ceasefire that seems to be associated with the judicial status of arrested Shadi el-Mawlawi whose fate is expected to be decided tomorrow.     

The most surprising thing is the fact that the situation in Tripoli exceeded Lebanese borders and reached Arab countries. House Speaker Nabih Berri looked with the Saudi ambassador into the possibility of calling on all dialogue poles for a meeting to address the situation in Tripoli. Herein lies the question: Why did Berri make such a call after meeting with the Saudi ambassador? What is the message he wanted to deliver? And to whom?
