National Bloc describes Karam sentence as “lukewarm”
Following its executive meeting on Tuesday, the National Bloc party issued a statement saying that the sentence issued against Army Brig. Gen. Fayez Karam raises suspicion, describing the sentence as “lukewarm” and politicized.

The fact that Hezbollah has kept silent and is not commenting on the verdict issued against Karam came as a surprise to the National Bloc party.

Karam, a senior FPM official, was found guilty of collaborating with Israel and providing Mossad agents with information about the FPM and Hezbollah in return for money. The final sentence against Karam was lowered from three to two years in prison. Karam has already served more than one year behind bars, leaving him to serve 11 months.

The statement said that most security violations are occurring in Hezbollah controlled areas.

“The use of force will only breed violence in return and the presence of statelets overshadows state’s institutions”, the statement added, stressing that the most dangerous aspect of the situation is that it will eventually come to internal blows.
