Electricity plan approved with four-stage funding until 2014

The cabinet, currently convened at Baabda Palace, unanimously approved the electricity plan with four-stage funding until 2014.

The cabinet also gave the green light to establish a ministerial committee to amend law 462 in 2 months, a governing body for the Energy Ministry in 3 months and a new administrative board for the Lebanese Electricity Company in two months.

“What has been accomplished during the past few hours is beyond excellent; it guarantees the implementation of the plan with a flexible funding formula”, Minister of Works Ghazi Aridi said before the session.

As for Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour, he said that the electricity plan’s funding will take place according to article 12 and that it will have a funding ceiling.

President Sleiman met with PM Najib Mikati before the session to discuss the fruits of the latest discussions on the electricity plan and other current events.

PM Mikati met with Speaker of the House Nabih Berri, Energy Minister Gebran Bassil, and the State Minister for administrative developments Mohammad Fneish at the Grand Serail.
