Aoun’s media office responds to Dar al-Fatwa’s call for a public apology
The media office of Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun responded to Dar al-Fatwa’s call for a public apology from Aoun on Friday with the following statement:

The office said that those requesting an apology should review the report related to confiscated items found inside Sheikh Abdul Al-Wahed’s vehicle and “which includes the entire truth and explicitly determines the types and the consumed quantity of the seized liquor”.

The statement added that General Aoun’s upbringing which is based on the right to diversity and free opinion stipulates that he apologizes when he is at fault, adding that Aoun has both the courage and courtesy needed for such an act. “We hope that others can do the same, all the while facing the whole truth, even when it causes pain”.

Sectarian identity should not be used as a “cover” for political statements, it concluded.

Dar el-Fatwa issued a statement on Thursday, demanding that Head of the Change and Reform Bloc MP Michel Aoun apologize for “offending Muslims generally and Islamic Scholar especially,” after claims by the MP implied that alcoholic beverages were present in slain Sheikh Abdul Wahed’s vehicle.

"Everyone knows that Martyr Sheikh Abdul Wahed was one of the most revered Islamic scholars and was killed deliberately”, the statement added.

“Does Aoun hope that by defaming the Sheikh he would die again?”

In its final statements the Dar demanded an apology by Aoun for what it called “defamation and offense of Muslim’s and Islamic scholars”.
