Hariri: Syrian people represent Arab dignity

Former PM Saad Hariri said that “fellow” Syrian people reflect the Arab dignity and represent a model for people who fight for their rights. “The Syrians are seeking to establish a pluralistic democratic regime that fulfills their aspirations”, he said.

“They want devolution of power; they want to take Syria to a whole other level where democracy outshines intelligence services”.

“I am deeply concerned for democracy”, Hariri said in a statement on the International Day of Democracy, adding that the reason behind these concerns is and will always be the prevalence of weapons at all levels.

“Weapons represent democracy’s greatest foe. They also undermine the stability that is supposed to shield democratic regimes”, Hariri added.
