A number of activists, along with Sabaa party and Kataeb party staged a protest outside the Beirut Municipality building, to protests a plan to establish a waste incinerator. The protest comes during a meeting held by the municipal council.

During the movement, MP Nadim Gemayel rejected the concept of the incinerator and its techniques wherever it was located within Beirut, noting that such facilities harm the capital and all the citizens.

In turn, MP Paula Yaacoubian said that “we are one people rejecting incinerators and we will be present in every region, in which they decide to build one.”

“Solutions should be presented by specialized people not businessmen,” she added.

For her part, Secretary General of Sabaa Party Ghada Eid pointed out that the highest rates of cancer are in Lebanon, calling on Beirut Mayor Jamal Itani to hold a public debate with experts and consultants specialized in the environmental issues to discuss this matter.
