MP Kanaan meets with World Bank delegation

Finance and Budget House committee head MP Ibrahim Kanaan met on Monday with a delegation of the World Bank chaired by Director of Strategy and Operations for the Middle East and North Africa region Anna Bjerde.

Talks reportedly featured high over the current financial and economic situation in the country in light of the latest presidential initiatives and ahead of the discussions over 2020 Budget.

Talks also tackled the reforms suggested in the 2019 Budget and the government’s commitment to it.

This as the delegation reiterated the World Bank’s “readiness to provide financial and technical help for Lebanon in the next phase,” highlighting the importance of translating the required reforms, mainly in the fields of electricity and partnership between the public and private sectors to pave the way for reducing deficit.

For his part, Kanaan asserted that Lebanon’s government and Parliament were pursuing the implementation of the decisions of the 2019 Budget and the presidential initiatives.

"The Parliament will play an active and effective role to push forward in this direction," he stressed.
