UNIFIL announces death of Indonesian peacekeeper wounded in South Lebanon

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced on Friday the death of an Indonesian peacekeeper who had been critically injured last month in southern Lebanon.

In a statement, UNIFIL said Corporal Rico Pramudia, 31, died in a hospital in Beirut after succumbing to wounds sustained in a projectile explosion at his base in Aadchit El Qsair on the night of March 29.

The mission expressed its deepest condolences to Pramudia’s family and friends, as well as to the Indonesian Army, the government, and the people of Indonesia.

UNIFIL also called on all parties to uphold their obligations under international law and ensure the safety and security of U.N. personnel and property at all times, stressing that deliberate attacks on peacekeepers constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law and of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, and may amount to war crimes.
