Fiat Bridge’s structure is solid and restoration is underway to reopen it
The Burj Hammoud Bridge leading to the Sassine Square witnessed heavy traffic Wednesday due to the closure of the Fiat Bridge; security forces prevented cars from crossing the bridge following a sudden defect in the bridge's structure.

In this regard, Beirut’s Mayor Bilal Hamad told LBCI that the bridge’s structure is solid and should not be a source of concern, adding “the bridge only needs restoration”.

Hamad pointed out that the bridge’s restoration project that was devised two years ago was delayed by administrative procedures.

Beirut’s Municipality is currently repairing the damaged part of the bridge and the process is expected to last for 20 days. However, the municipality will set temporary metal plates to reopen the bridge before this date.
